David's Bio | The Houck Team | Job Opportunities

David I. Houck, Principal

houck David Irvin Houck grew up in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. After completing his grammar school locally, David attended The Stony Brook School on Long Island and then began college at Iowa State. Fulfilling his dream of living in California, he transferred to Pepperdine University in 1985.

Shortly after moving to Los Angeles, David founded Houck Incorporated. For over 20 years David has chosen highly qualified and skilled colleagues to join his family-oriented company. With over 60 employees today, David’s interest in his team extends beyond the work atmosphere: he also assists them with achieving their own personal goals and truly considers them his local family.

Having the privilege of working with renowned architects and designers, including Barton Phelps, FAIA, William Hablinski, AIA, Michael Berman, and Frank Pennino, enables David to create high-end environments from Armani and the Long Beach Aquarium to multi-million dollar estates in Rolling Hills and Bel Air. David’s commitment to team collaboration has built enduring relationships that have contributed to his long list of notable clientele.

Utilizing the many unique and reputable resources available has allowed Houck Incorporated to produce diverse and prestigious projects, many of which have been published in magazines such as Architectural Digest, Town and Country and Elle Décor to name a few. Houck Incorporated’s stunning portfolio conveys David’s astute attention to detail and insistence on the highest of quality.

David is committed to giving back to our community and has a special place in his heart for our youth. His commitment to helping children started in the early 1980s when he began teaching Sunday school at his church. For nearly 20 years he has been involved in supporting Best Buddies, an organization that enhances the lives of children with intellectual disabilities by providing one-on-one friendships and integrated employment opportunities. He is involved with the Knowledge Is Power Program (KIPP), a Los Angeles Charter School, one of only 38 schools nationally committed to providing underprivileged students with the academic skills, intellectual habits and character traits that are necessary for success in high school, college and the competitive world beyond. Also serving on the Board of Directors for the C5 Youth Foundation, David shares their passion to “change the odds for high-potential youth from risk-filled environments, inspiring them to pursue personal success, and preparing them for leadership roles in college, work and their communities.” David has received several commendations for his contributions to the community and these organizations.

David’s passions include golf, sailing, fishing, horseback riding, tennis and skiing – both water and snow. He serves on the Board for Friends of Golf, a non-profit organization devoted to the support of bringing the sport of golf to youth at both the High School and College level through financial and equipment contribution. David’s love of the fine arts is confirmed by his generous contributions to the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Los Angeles Opera, as well as other organizations dedicated to enhancing the community’s cultural affairs. David is one of the original members of the Southern California Food and Wine Society and shares the desire of his fellow members to learn more about gourmet food and wine in a social setting.

Having strong ties to his siblings, David often travels all over the country to visit them – from his niece’s sporting events in San Luis Obispo to supporting his nephew’s accomplishments at the Naval Academy in Annapolis. David’s father is a very active outdoorsman, and they often vacation together, enjoying their common interests of skiing, fishing and horseback riding. When visiting his mother, David is always inspired by her community involvement, especially her passion for the non-profit library that she founded and helps operate in a small community outside her town in Wisconsin.
